Yeah…they won again, the way the bigest of football match makes us feel, just amazing I want to just said and wonder all at once it a lovely feeling. Chelsea cleared the final hurdle in a season of never-ending challenges when they beat Bayern Munich 4-3 on penalties in the German team’s Allianz Arena stadium to be crowned European Champions for the first time on Saturday. With Saturday’s dramatic penalty shootout win, Chelsea finally exorcised the ghosts of the 2008 Champions League final in Moscow.
“Football, like life, is unpredictable and crazy,” Di Matteo said. “Nobody could have predicted the last three months. To finish like this is incredible. Whatever the future holds for me, I’d be happy.”
Captain John Terry, defender Branislav Ivanovic and midfielders Raul Meireles and Ramires are all banned from this final while Di Matteo said Florent Malouda was “touch and go” after pulling a hamstring during the first half of Sunday’s final Premier League match against Blackburn Rovers. Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard who wore the captain’s armband on the night, gave much of the credit for the title to Didier Drogba and Petr Cech. For Chelsea, this is the first Champions League title in the Premier League club’s history, after they finished as runners-up in 2008.
“We didn’t play fantastic but the main man Drogba and Cech dug us out of troubles there,” Lampard said. “They’re heroes. Without them we’re not here. They scores the goals and made great keeper in the big games.“
Those scenes in the bowels of the Allianz Arena represented an outpouring of long pent-up emotion. This competition had tormented Chelsea, all those flirtations with semi‑finals over nine long years leaving this squad mentally scarred. The Champions League had steadily become Abramovich’s obsession simply because it was the trophy he appeared incapable of claiming, but that has now changed. Finally Chelsea have come back to claim what they wanted four years ago. Congrats Chelsea, keep low profile and be the best for next season. 🙂
